My good friend – the Pinniped Matriarch, Deb Wickham – referred me to Boss Frog who was writing articles on our beaches.
I took hundreds of photos of Makalewena, shown here.
At Honaunau Bay where i was lucky enough to get video of a pod of Spinner Dolphins who visited me! (it was too large to upload)

To get to one of the breathtaking beaches on Hawai'i Island, you must first drive 15 - 20 minutes down "hell road", where rental cars are strictly forbidden but that's all you see!

If you walk a short distance, you come to this area. Very rocky and rough, not the best for swimming, but perfect for hanging out, pitching the beach tent!

Make a right and start the 30 minute, HOT walk over a trail of some sand, then ...

...nothing but sun and sharp, uneven, lava rocks!

Then you start to see this, and it only gets better...

...well not for this guy, but keep going.

This incredible piece of heaven was never very crowded, but this was my little spot to get away from humans.

Nothing is better than this, the most beautiful water on the planet.
